GCC Seminar on 'Good Governance'
The first John Smith Associate Fellowship in Good Governance was held between February and March 2016. The first part of the Fellowship consisted of a preparatory weekend event in Ras al Khaimah (UAE) on 26-28 February 2016. The event consisted of a series of workshops and team building sessions exploring the themes of the Fellowship, and providing training skills in areas such as leadership and public speaking. Representatives from the institutions helping to deliver the Fellowship, St Andrews University, Oxford University and the British Council, together with John Smith Trustees participated in the event. The event also included a meeting of current GCC John Smith Trust alumni.
The second part of the Fellowship event consisted of a study visit to the UK from Monday 7 March to Wednesday 16 March 2016. The visit encompassed an intensive programme of activities in Scotland, Oxford and London where the Associate Fellows were able to share views and experiences with British counterparts in their respective areas of interest. There was an opportunity to interact with British decision-makers at different levels during meetings with the Scottish Government and Parliament, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the UK Parliament and other institutions.
